RuPaul's Drag Race remains the reigning queen of reality programming at the 2019 Emmy Awards, and RuPaul took the opportunity to send an empowering civic message in his acceptance speech.
After Drag Race won in the reality competition program category, the host and creator took the podium in a powder pink and black tuxedo alongside Drag Race's judges and crew. He proceeded to thank the audience and the queens who grace the show every season. (Drag Race is the defending champion in this race, as the show received this honor in 2018 as well.)
"We are so proud of this show, and we are so happy for all the gorgeous kids who come on and show how fabulous they are," he said before listing off and thanking his various collaborators and Drag Race's network, VH1.
"Thanks to the academy for voting for us," he continued. "And speaking of voting and love: go and register to vote! Go to vote.gov! Vote! Register!"
RuPaul himself has dominated the category of outstanding host for a reality or competition program in recent history: he won this year's award, and has collected Emmys in this category consecutively since 2016.
