Delta State Assembly Speaker, Chief Sherriff Oborevwori on wednesday harped on the need for members- elect of the 7th Assembly to promote the welfare of unity that will move the country forward in the present economic crisis.
The speaker, who spoke to Journalists in Asaba on the need to get it right on the economic way forward, however reminded the elected 7th Assembly members that their constituents have placed on their shoulders responsibility to be their mouth piece in government, adding that” in our actions and inactions in government, we must at all times remember that we are nothing but representatives of our people, some people call this mandate of ours, trusteeship, while others refer to it as servants leadership”
Chief Oborevwori also urged the members- elect to take the legislative activities seriously, rather than paying attention to how they will be making money for their pockets including their family members, and warned that the 7th Assembly will deal rootlessly with any lawmaker whose functions fall short of expectations at the House.
He said” the essence of all I am saying is that members- elect for the 7th Assembly should initiative Programmes and Policies that will create understanding of providing quality leadership as legislators in the state, and also contribute meaningfully to the improvement of the economic crisis for a better growth and as well as ensuring they are accessable to their constituents at all times”.
The speaker however urged federal government to decentralize the police force in order to effectively combat the rising cases of serious crimes across the country that have resulted in the loss of lives and properties in the recent times, adding” there is need for government to increase the number of Policemen by recruiting more hands, upgrade the equipment they have with new technology in Policing everywhere in their duties”
The lawmaker regretted that the Nigeria Police force saddled with the responsibility of Policing the country, was still suffering from inadequate crime combating tools when other countries of the world have aquired modern technology to check sophistication in crime.
