Just about a month after the management of National Assembly suspended move to deregister journalists, more than 130 journalists covering both legislative chambers have been barred from covering the inauguration of the ninth Assembly on Tuesday.
Peoples Daily gathered that out of the 82 journalists covering the national Assembly attached to the House of Representatives only eleven (11) reporters and three (3) photographer was accredited.
Also in Senate only 14 Journalists plus one photography 12 journalists were accredited.
Traditionally, journalists covering the gallery are accredited while other reporters not listed are allowed to cover the inauguration from their press centres but in this instance, Journalists are not allow into the Assembly promises that Tesuday except for the few accredited.
The sixth and seventh assemblies accreditation process was hassle free as more than 25 reporters and camera men were accredited from each press corps while others were allowed into the complex.
Immediately after the inauguration movements are no longer restricted to enable reporters and camera men do their jobs.
As it is, some media houses are going to be locked out of the complex until the entire proceedings are concluded.
Our correspondent also gathered that NASS management may meet on the issue as journalists are planning to protest over how they are being treated like third class citizens while carrying out their duties.
As at the time of filling this story management was yet to meet on the issue.
