New Classical Reviews

In several countries, March is Women’s History Month, and so, accordingly, we reviewed a few of the recordings released for this year’s celebration. From Chicago’s Cedille label comes Project W, featuring new music by women composers performed by the Chicago Sinfonietta lead by Mei-Ann Chen. Pianist Lara Downes gives us Holes in the Sky, which features female composers’ original solo works and song transcriptions. Violinist Tasmin Little, on the eve of her retirement, also dedicates a disc to music by women. JoAnn Falletta – recently named Classical Woman of the Year by the radio program Performance Today – leads the Buffalo Philharmonic in Respighi’s Roman-themed tone poems.
